Clive Palmer does not want Tiger Woods to visit the Palmer Coolum Resort
Clive Palmer, the owner of the Palmer Coolum Resort, has said that he does not want Tiger Woods to be a part of the Australian PGA Championships.
The Palmer Coolum Resort has hosted the Australian PGA Championships continuously for the last 10 years. Palmer now wants to keep the tournament at his club for the years to come.
During an interview with The Australian, he ripped Tiger Woods by saying that the former world number one is no more an appealing figure in the world of golf. According to him, Peter Senior can be a better option, compared to the 14-time major champion.
"Tiger Woods isn't the No 1 golfer in the world any more. We don't want to look backwards, we want to look forwards. So why would you get Tiger Woods here? I would prefer to have Peter Senior than Tiger Woods,” he said.
"I am sure Peter Senior could beat Tiger Woods on a good day. I am sure he could. Tiger Woods has improved a lot but he's an emotional wreck and he's not a good example for kids, anyway,” he added.
For many golf experts, Palmer’s comments did not make any sense, as Senior is 53 years old and is most likely to quit playing earlier than Woods.
Senior is an Australian golfer, who has won three Australian PGA Championships during his career, with the last one coming in 2010.
Last week, he became the oldest winner of the Australian Open, after he secured a one-stroke victory over Brendan Jones.
Apart from that, he has not really proved his mettle in other parts of the world. In the past one decade, he has played in just one major golf championship, when he finished tied for the 60th position at the 2010 British Open.
Therefore, the golf commentators believe that if Palmer wants to focus on the future, then why he named a 53-year-old player as his idol, compared to the man who has shown resurgence in the last season.
Woods recorded three PGA Tour victories during the 2012 golf season and surged to the third position in the Official World Golf Rankings.
