Ok, I saw this neat little article:

http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/daily-news/080717-Kid-Slows-Traffic-with-his-Hot-Wheels-Radar-Gun-/

The cars in our subdivision go awfully fast, it would be interesting to get one of these ($30 at WalMart) and sit on my front steps to see how fast they're really going - and maybe slow people down at the same time (especially if they have a detector - but they shouldn't as they're illegal in Virginia). Heck, I bet it would shoot through an open window and read out ok!

I'm sure someone out there has (or can find) specs on real radar guns, radar detectors, and this thing...so would the Hotwheels radar gun actually be able to trigger someone's dash-mount radar detector?

  1. I saw something on the news that in Louisville Kentucky

there is this 13 year old boy who wears a safe vest and rides to a nearby highway and uses his radar gun to see the speed of the car whizzing by

    (it slows them them down)

  2. Uh... yes. It's a real radar gun, However, it doesn't use any of the existing radar gun bands that I know of. I doubt it will trigger radar detectors.

  3. There are quite a few 'kits' that set off radar detectors.  Do some google.  They're probably not as cheap as the $30 hotwheel gun though.

  4. hahahhaha that is awesome

I have that radar gun, i got it as a gag gift from my buddy when I graduated the academy. It works just like a real radar gun but it is far less powerful. So if you are close enough, you could set off a radar detector.
