  2. That has happened to me also, and I too was surprised.

    I agree with you that it seems more natural, that when

    the opponent's time runs out, the game should be over.

    Here's my explanation:

    Chess Games are set-up with an Initial Time limit and an Increment.

    The optional Increment is a few seconds allowed for each move.

    If you ever experience that the clock runs out for your opponent in chess,

    clock stops, but the game dosn't stop; it is because

    the opponent is using their increment time of a few seconds per move.

    If the time limit expires, and increment also expires, then the game is over.

    The games does end eventually if time runs out.
