Question:

Clogged Shower?

I have the kind of shower where you open it to get in, and it isn't a tub. I got out of the shower yesterday and noticed it was draining slower than usual. I figured that I would put stuff in it tomorrow to get rid of the hair in it. When I went to do this today, there was still a thin layer of water in it from yesterday. I'm not sure how to get the water to drain and remove what is clogging it. Do I still put the stuff in it with the water? I know the stuff is poisonous, so if it doesn't work, I'm afraid I'll have to stick my hand in it. I tried sticking a hanger in it, but I don't think I did it right; it didn't work. I really don't want to stick my hand in it. I need a solution that is fast and requires no money.

  1. Call a plumber to send snake in the pipe to unclog it.

  2. yeah just pour it in on top of the water

  3. the best solutiion is to manually remove the hair. is there a s***w on the drain cap??

How about the lever for the stopper  handle?? try to take that out---sometimes the hair is wrapped around it.

  4. well the best way to do it is to run a snake down there. if you dont have a snake try a plunger, they even sell them at the dollar store now. if you have a wet/dry vac, take off the drain screen and try sucking it up. you couls also try a blow bag. that hooks up to your garden hose and pushes out the clog using water pressure

  5. there is hair blocking the drain pipe, it happens all the time.. just open up the drain, take pliers or whatever and grab the hair out and throw it away. then itll be fine.

  6. U need a small snake (1/4")  $20. the cranking kind.  Any hardware store.  That's the best way to clean out the P-trap of any hair.  Good Luck.  If u don't want to spend any money...run a water hose into the drain and turn on full blast...make sure ur covering the hole to keep pressure in.

  7. Use a wet-or-dry shop vac to evacuate the standing water.  You can even suck a lot of hair and debris out of the drain with the vacuum too.  That may solve your issue without even using any chemicals, but if needed you can then safely add your liquid drain cleaner.

  8. The shower drains usually plug with hair.  Buy 4 feet of stranded 12 ga copper wire , strip a 4 inches of one end,  spread the strands back and out,  and push it in the drain, twist it a few times, and pull the wire back out. You may have to do this several times to get all of the hair out so the drain works as you want.  Keep the wire for the next time it happens.  The snake will not usually go around the shower/tub drain trap. the chemicals never seem to get the hair out in my experience.  Once the drain is clean, try putting an old nylon sock over the drain when you wash your hair, the finer mesh will trap the strands and then you can toss the whole mess.
