Clomid? Any Advice? You experience?

What do I need to do to get on this? I have a Dr's apt October 1. We have been trying for a year now. But this Dr's apt is only for me not for my husband. Is this something that my husband will have to go to the dr for too? Or just me? When I made theaptt I told them I needed my "yearly" with the pap smear and all that and I needed a "Before you get pregnant" physical... But I really want to be out on Clomid. Any advice would be great. Thank you so much.

Also, for those of yall that are or have been on this...how had it been for you? How fast did it help you conceive?

  1. I would straight up ASK for it, then the DR can discuss what options you have. Make sure you stress that YES you have been ttc for a year. Most DR will not give you any "help" if it is less than a year.

Personally, I have been on clomid since Nov 07 and still ttc...it is different for everyone. So, don't get too excited...just relax. (everyone's advice)

Best of luck, hope it works for ya!

  2. The first step is to make sure that it will fix your problem- there are many reasons for infertility, and Clomid only addresses one of them. I would also not advise taking it under the care of a gyn- ask to be referred to a fertility specialist. Also, if you are prescribed Clomid, make sure you will be monitored by a minimum of a 21 day blood test. If your doctor gives you six months worth of Clomid and tells you good luck, run the other way and find a new doctor.

The recommendation is that a woman be on Clomid no more than 12 cycles in her lifetime- you don't want to be on it for months unless you know it is addressing your issue and that it is working. It doesn't make you conceive faster- it causes ovulation in women who aren't ovulating. If that's not your problem, then it won't do you any good, and it very well may do you harm.

I was on it three cycles- it made me ovulate twice, but no pregnancy. I did IUI with my last cycle.

EDIT: Also, before you take anything, have a s***n analysis done on your husband. The problem might have nothing to do with you at all. My RE wouldn't start my Clomid until the SA was back and acceptable.

  3. i have been on clomid three times. and it never worked for me.

the last time before they started it my hubby had to have a sperm test. then it was glucofage(misspelled) and then after a couple of months on that i started the clomid. there are going to be lots of test. or should be. i had to have test to see if my fallopian tubes were blocked. then every 12th day of my cycle started the sonos to see if i had any follicles. and if not had to go back the next day and so fourth.

i had to loose weight. that really helps being on the low carb diet.

this is no fun but i ended up divorced and now am pregnant.

  4. I was on Clomid last cycle and now I am in my 2WW.  The dr. won't give you clomid until they do blood work to determine your hormone levels to see if you even need it (and how much to rx).  I had the before you get pregnant physical in Dec 07 and in Jan 08 my cycle was monitored and I had my blood work done.  They determined that I have some hormonal issues so I was on a series of different hormonal supplements and I had monthly blood work to determine the progress.  Anyway long story short I got a rx for Clomid last month and I had an ultrasound on Monday and it confirmed that I was getting ready to ovulate.   I took the home ovulation kit and it gave me a positive as well so on Monday I had an IUI done.  I had no real side effects during my Clomid but I was a little more emotional a few days after.  My pharmacist said she was on it and it made her have mood swings.  She told me that before I started so during that time I kept telling myself that what I was feeling was due to the Clomid and I managed to stay very calm.  Good luck with your appt. and Baby Dust to you.

BTW the dr. will tell you when they want to see your husband.
