Clomid question-long cycles-progesterone test-help?

I have a cycle that is 42-48 days longs and I am on my first round of clomid. Monday I go in for my 21 day progesterone test. Because my cycle is so long, is testing my progesterone level on day 21 too early to see if I have ovulated? What if I haven’t even ovulated yet? My doc knows about my long cycles thus the clomid. I just want everything to go well. Is their a magic # I want my progesterone test to read? Any other advice from clomid users is welcome!

I haven’t had any ultrasounds and my doc told me not to take ovulation tests (she doesn’t feel they are accurate)…I just feel like I have no idea what is going with my body?

  1. my  doc gave me clomid to use from day 5 -9 and on day 10 i went to get my dominant follicles or eggs seen through transvaginal ultrasound.i didnt give any ovulation tests.she just checked yhe ovarian follicles by t.v ultrasound.i got preggo on 2nd round of clomid. so dont worry and keep using the med  given by the doc.

  2. I'm sorry but it sounds like you need a new doctor!  How is she not going to monitor your cycle?!  That's ridiculous!  I took Clomid last month and went in for an ultrasound on day 15 and had 3 good eggs, and so I had a shot to make me O, then 14 days later I tested.  I also did OPK's that month just to make sure I didn't O before day 15.  Clomid normally makes people O later in their cycle, but not that late.  You should definitely be doing OPK's and if you do not get preggo this month, you need to go back for an ultrasound to make sure the Clomid didn't give you cysts on your ovaries.

  3. Your doc is your gyn, and not your fertility doc right?  That is fine.  I was told that they want the progesterone level to be above 3 and that would indicate ovulation.  Your doc is not planning on using a trigger shot, not all docs do.  U/S are expensive and aren't necessary.  I believe that doing the least invasive procedures first are the typical course of action.   More is not always better, I wouldn't look for a more aggressive doc until 6 months, unless you are AMA (advanced maternal age).  I have PCOS, was successful on clomid 50mg, and did not ovulate till day 26, so yeah it does happen.  Also, ovulation occurs 17 days before your period.  For you that would be days 25-31!  To achieve pregnancy you should be having intercourse now every 48-72 hours until you are certain that you ovulated.  After intercourse, it helps to lay for 10 minutes with your hips propped up under pillows, gravity helps!  Actually I had IUI (intra-uterine insemination) done at the fertility doc and they had me inverted on the table for 10min.  If you haven't ovulated yet, which I suspect that your doc doesn't think that you have, the doc will repeat in a few days.  Maybe if you don't ovulate at all, after 3 months they up the clomid from 50mg to 100mg, or they may add a trigger shot.  The trigger hcg shot is progesterone, and will induce mature follicles to ovulate.
