A question for Montrealers...

Is it so that over the years several AM stations (850AM being one) have closed down in Montreal without being bought by new owners?

If so, seems strange. Any explanations?

  1. It's all about $$$

On July 1st 2008  the news station 940 am has completely changed format from being a news station to a music one simply because they couldn't afford to have all the reporters and researchers to deliver the news. I used to listen to this station each day and this really tics me off.

Another reason is that am station don't sound as good as the fm ones. People would rather listen to fm so again the stations don't generate enough revenue.

Now with the arrival of satellite radio, I'm afraid of loosing the local fm stations in the long run. Anything could happen.

  2. I'm sure there have, just like there are new stations.

and also, some stations changed their genres, for example from news to music or vice versa.
