Closeing IM and what comes up?

when I am on IM and go to close it always says main window is closed can any one tell me why it dose this and what it means it started when I went to the new IM

it means the the big window will shut but a little icon will still be at bottom of screen and will let you know when email messages come in you have to exit I'm for it to disappear completely,basically you are still on line(IM) when the main window shut
