Due to prices of electricity, oil going up... I am contemplating of closing the Pool Pump just during the night from like 8 or 9 till 6am in the morning. The pool water currently is ok and clear. My concern is if algae might form during the time when it is off.

  1. You should be ok to do this.

  2. Here in Southern California we turn our pool water over 1 time per day.  Summer or Winter.  With that said, it may be better to turn your water over more in summer.

Commercial pools run 24/7 but residential pools need not.  Check your pool gallons and find the flow in gallons per minute and divide the two and divide by 60 mins this will be your hours of circulation needed to turn over the water once.

    You're welcome!!

  3. You should not experience any algae problems by having the pump off for the time you indicated.  I run my for about 6 hours a day and put in 2 ounces of algaecide weekly and do not experience any problems with it.
