Closing bank account. 10 points for the best advice. Thank you?

Hello,

I want to close my bank account because I will move to foreign country for good. Last week, I booked a hotel room online by using my Visa card. They have not taken the money from my bank account yet. Is this mean I cannot close my account? I am afraid the hotel won't take my money until the day I arrived in the hotel which is too late to close my bank account. What should I do? Please help. Thank you.

Most hotels require a credit card for identification purposes and to just hold your reservation. It will not be charged unless you tell them to charge it when you get to the hotel.

You can still close your account. Just dont use your credit card to pay for the hotel when you get there. They will ask to see your card and a piece of ID when you get there just to verify its you, but they will then ask you how you want to pay for your room.

If you are worried, you can always contact the hotel and just ask them if you can pay cash on arrival for your room.

I wouldnt leave your bank account open as you said you will be leaving the country for good.

step1)GO to the bank and inform them that you want to close the account on the specific date.You no need to close the account immediatley.You can close account to any future date.But if you still have problem.

option 2)

You can close your account on phone and they will send the balance cash to any address you give.(Give your friend or relative address to that they can collect the cash.).

Option3):After you arrive at the hotel the next day also you can go to the nearest branch to close the account.

It makes no difference if you have a bank account open or closed to use a Visa card. I have 3 Credit Cards from 3 different bank and only have accounts with one of them.  The bank account just makes it easier to pay the Visa bill.    

I'm assuming that you are closing you Bank account only and not canceling the Credit Card.  

Also the booked room will should only be charged once you arrived at the hotel.  When you do you could always pay with a different card.

Are you online at your bank?  If so you could check for pending transactions to see if the hotel charge is there and when it will post.  Or call the hotel and see what their policy is on charging and when they will post it.  If necessary you could wire a money order or check to them to be processed right away then you could close the bank account.

They probably won't charge your card until you check in. You shouldn't close the account until that payment clears. You could explain your situation to the bank. They may allow you to set a close date. Leave enough money in the account to cover your anticipated hotel expenses and give your bank the authority to then close the account and cut you a check for any remainder.
