Closing the gap for a takedown in afight: Wrestler Vs Boxer?

Ill keep it short

Going to fight this kid in an enclosed space

He has a boxing background

I am Far stronger but he is taller and has a good reach and im assuming he is faster than me. Ive tangled with him before but started out close enough for a quick take-down which ended it quick.

My question is that since were going to most probably square off beforfe we fight whats the most effective way to close the gap so i can grap him and take him downs o i can pummel him? Should i just expect to take a good punch and keep going? He is most probably not gonna over lunge being trained in boxing

  1. It's actually much easier than you think. You can throw some jabs at his face. Keep that shoulder high and your chin low when you jab so you can protect that arm.

Keep STEPPING your way into the other guy until you get close enough. Once you're close enough, ram into him with your face down. If he hits you in the head, it'll be the top of your head which will hurt his fist.

I don't know how good of a wrestler you are but the general idea is to drive THROUGH the opponent. Don't be a noob and try to pick him up!

  2. Infighting. If you get inside he cannot use his reach. Use your power and strength on him. If you use that you can take him without actually having to take him down.

  3. Well, if its in an enclosed space you really have no excuses. If he's really fast he can sidestep and back-up without you taking him down. You actually might end up falling on your face going for a takedown and end up getting taken down yourself and stomped out. I suggest you go after him ignore his punches, as you will certainly have to take a punch in order to take him down.
