Clothes sizes for women from India?

have a freind who is a woman From Hyderabad. I want to buy her some clothes as a present. I asked her what sizes she wears. She tld me she is 5ft 6 in and wear medium clothes. So I went to store, and found out there is no such thing as medium jeans and medium tops. So the question what sizes do i buy for her? 8-9-10-12-14? What is appropriate for her to wear ther?

If she is from Hyderabad and is a traditional woman, I suggest that you buy her an Indian traditional dress.  If you are in New Jersey, you could buy a "Salwar Kameez" at a place called Aashirwaad on Oak Tree Lane in Iselin. There are many more places.

For such dresses, "medium" size will be fine.
