I'm visiting Australia from July 2nd to July 21st. I will be going all over the country from Sydney to Cairns including stops in Airlie Beach, Yeppoon, Moreton Island, and Harvey Bay.Those are just a few places we will stop. How warm is it and what sort of clothes should I wear?

  1. I would advise looking at the travel mags for Australia, and wear what the locals wear.

  2. july is australias coldest month. in queensland like cairns (north) its fine for t-shirt and shorts, if your going to southern qld its low 20 degrees or in the high 68-70 fahrenheit so t-shirt and shorts in the day but it gets cold at night but sydney is freezing at the moment like the whole south of the country, if you are going to tasmania bring an eskimo jacket or you will freeze

  3. The climates of those places vary and being winter I would suggest layering. Like you could bring some dresses and on the colder days a skivvy and tights underneath, that seems to be a popular look this winter.

  4. well when in NSW wear lots of warm clothes but as you go further up north it will be warmer so pack lots of warm stuff and a few things for warmer weather :)

  5. I Live in Australia,

In Cairns it's really really hot on some days.

I suggest shorts and a thin t-shirt or singlet. Bring a jacket incase it rains.

Sydney is inbetween, warm and sunny on some days, cold and windy on other. So really you need to pack both sorts of clothing for Sydney.

Overall Australia has mixed days and temperatures. You never know when it'll start raining basically!

    Have a good trip.

  6. I live in Brissy and have been comfortable lately in jeans and a tshirt.  As others have said, make sure you bring a jumper (I still use one at night) but the days - especially up north - will be warm and sunny so bring some shorts as well.  Just bring layers - that is the best.  (No snow jackets needed though unless you are going to thredbo or something!)

  7. i live in southern aus and its around 15-20 degrees (celcius)

sydney will be cold too, but it should be a bit warmer up north like cairns. just look at the weather forecast and pack for that :)

jeans and a jumper should be fine

  8. All of those places up in QLD will be warm, I was just up there from Melbourne and it was about 25 degrees (celcius) which is pretty nice this time of year.

At the moment in Melbourne though I have been wearing Jeans, boots and a jacket every day because it has been pretty cold (about 15 degrees)!! Sydney would be similar.

The climate around Australia changes dramatically from place to place, so I would suggest you bring a bit of everything.

You will definitely need at least one pair of shorts and one pair of jeans. Don't you hate having to pack for places where the weather changes so much?!

  9. It will be quite warm in Cairns (shorts and t-shirt weather). Other places it will likely get cold at night, so you will need some 'warm' clothes. However you won't need much more than a light-medium jacket. It doesn't get below freezing in any of the major tourist areas.

  10. It's Winter.

    So warm clothes.

  11. In Brisbane today it is 25 degrees c, light breeze and all of my family are in shorts and t shirts.  My sister in Sydney said it was cool this morning but nice in the sun.  Up North in Cairns etc warm.  The warmest thing you will have to bring is a pair of jeans, a jumper,or jacket, just one, and maybe a scarf for the early mornings in Sydney.  Bring little and take home lots.  You won't need anything heavy at all.

  12. You need a jacket for down South especially at night as you get further North the warmer it will be. Cotton tops track pants that sort of thing but around airlie beach Cairns area you may find really nice and be happy with shorts and t shirt. Today on the GoldCoast it's about 22 celcius but nippy at night

  13. I live in between those two places and the weather is quite cool. Most people just wear shorts and a shirt but you should bring a spare jumper.

  14. You'll need casual summer clothes and light winter clothes (jeans and a sweatshirt and a jacket).

Always make sure you have a T-shirt or something under your sweatshirt in case you get too warm and need to take it off. I hope you enjoy yourself and have a lovely visit here.

These are AVERAGES for July, the middle of our winter.

Bear in mind these are averages it can be a little warmer or cooler depending on the day.

Airlie Beach temperatures would be very similar to Cairns.

Yeppoon, Moreton Island, and Harvey Bay temperatures would be similar to Brisbane probably a little warmer.

    Brisbane:

    Max - 20 ºC - 68 ºF

    Min - 10 ºC - 50 ºF

    Sydney:

    Max - 16 ºC - 61 ºF

    Min - 8 ºC - 46 ºF

    Cairns:

    Max - 26°C - 78.8°F

    Min - 17°C - 62.6 °F

    Cairns Climate

Whatever the time of the year it is difficult to say that it gets cold in Cairns however in June and July you can often here locals complaining about the cold snap as it sometimes gets down to 10 degrees Celsius (about 66 Fahrenheit) overnight.
