  1. Give her $50 a month.  Today I went shopping for a new pair of jeans because mine definitely don't fit me anymore.  I tried like every pair I could find, and the only pair I found was from Hollister (I am very petite), and those jeans cost me $52!  That's why I suggest $50, because maybe the only pair of pants that she can find that fit her correctly are the more expensive ones.

  2. That's reasonable =]

She can get cute clothes on clearance at Old Navy and Target. Not everything has to be brand-new from Abercrombie to be cute!

  3. That will buy her half a shirt.  what is your income?  If you can afford it I would tell her one outfit a month.

  4. Well a pair of jeans alone or a sweatshirt can be over $30 dollars.  I don't know where she shops, but if it's somewhere cheap like target then that would be fine.

  5. I don't think she should have an allownace.

If she has no clothes to wear, then she can go out and buy some. But 30 dollars ever month to get new clothes is ridiculous. She'll grow out of them in a few years, anyway.

  6. I think that $50 would be more reasonable, but only if she deserves it. Like she's doing chores and stuff. I don't get money from my parents but if you have some to spare then it is fine. You might want to allow more when you go shopping for school though.

  7. Are you just giving it to her, or does she have to earn it? Yes, I think 30 a month is reasonable. If she complains about it, I would show her the ads in the paper, and have her make a budget and see how far she can stretch it. If she saves it up for something big or just buys small things. She needs to learn how to shop wisely. But if she spends it and asks for more, will you bail her out? I hope not. I'd say your pretty generous.

  8. That sounds good. I only get $20 a month.

  9. Well I'm 14 and I love shopping also, but our family is in a money situation that doesn't exactly allow me to do all that. But IF you have the money, give her $50 a month. Clothes these days are expensive, and I hate when my parents put such a low limit on me. It's hard to find jeans under $30 nowadays!

  10. thats good;

    or like 40.

gives her enough to buy a couple shirts and a pair of pants. 50 might be too much.

  11. NO! $30 pocket money is reasonable, but not as a clothes allowance.

That is not enough money at all. Last time I bought a dress it cost $450. And the last pair of jeans I bought cost $340 and so did the last jacket I bought. Clothes are meant to be investment pieces, and the more money you pay, the longer it lasts and the better you treat it. I haven't bought 100 c**p things this season like I used to do, maybe only 10 nice things that I will keep forever and don't date easily, because you spend a little more on them.

I'm not extremely well off, but that's how much things cost these days. $30 a month? What on earth do you expect that she can buy with that??? Nothing!

I'm 15. My sister who is 12 probably spends about the same amount as me (maybe a little less).

I wouldn't give her an allowance as such. Maybe just buy her one really nice thing every 2 months or 3 months. That's what I do.

  12. I'd start with $30 and then ask her how things are going.  I had to buy an entire warm weather wardrobe (casual clothing only) due to a change in size and with a couple pairs of shoes and sneakers, easily it was $500. Jeans alone are $30.   I do encourage frugal spending, but that is just why I suggest that you  and her get together now and then and decide if it is actually enough.

  13. It depends on how much practical clothing she needs If she has to buy sneakers, coats, mitten, and school clothes you might want to consider 40 or 50 a month. If she is just buying ":hang out clothes 30 dollars sounds fine.

  14. if thats all you can give her then it has to be enough and she'll need to find a way to work with it.  im 19 and to be honest $30 is ok if she wants to buy one thing every month.
