  1. Liquid dish soap in a smaller amount along with a cup of baking soda? I run out all the time and that's what I so....Oh, use cold water to wash and possibly to rinse, too. The cold water helps to keep the sudsing down.

  2. DO NOT use dish soap.  There are bearings in washing machines dish soap, because of the suds, the soap will get into those bearings and they will dry out.  Permenantely ruining machine.  No soap.  Borax or vinegar will do or just wash them w/ no soap.  They will be cleaner than before.  Poder cascade is another option but it does have a wee bit of bleach in it.

  3. If the clothes aren't really filthy but need to be washed you can use liquid fabric softener and it will make the clothes smell fresh.

  4. baking soda will make super suds.  Also if you are like most Americans, you oversoap.  And you could just wash in water and a softening agent like baking soda and then you could see suds and be happy.  Borax also is good to add to your wash.  Vinegar or lemon juice and salt.

  5. not unless you are doing by hand..

try the good old standby.. Simple Green.. it degreases.. it whitens and brightens and smells good.. and doesn't hurt the clothing at all.. doesn't take much either.. i use it when i can find it for a laundry additive..
