People don't want to be RAINED ON by some one who sees a cloud around every silver lining.

    But

    To speak of someone who sees a cloud around every silver lining would be to speak of a pessimist.

    The quotation is using the continuing metaphor of a rain cloud to say people don&#039;t want to be brought down by pessimists. You could even say they don&#039;t want to be dampened by their dark countenance. :)

  3. It is a reference to pessimistic people who always find something to be negative about. It is a metaphor. The feelings that evoke when you get rained on are usually negative and people who &quot;rain on you&quot; are negative. They see negative around everything, even good things.
