We check our pool every day, it had been fine at the start of the season, but with the kids swimming all day on the weekends all using sun block all day long, it is now very cloudy. Chlorine, ph, everything is where it needs to be. Is is possible that the sunblock creates a goo?? How do you clear this out?

  1. Normal pool maintenance involves super chlorination every other week in Summer and every month the rest of the year for a lightly used pool.

Break point chlorination raises CL 10X above the current level.  For best results start when sun is off the water and leave your pump on 3 hours to mix well.  Swim following day when Cl levels in 1-3ppm with 5 max.

Your test kit may not tell you of the presence of chloramines the stuff makes pools smelly (Chlorine Smell) and red eyes. There are kits available that do you might check into.

Liquid pool chlorine sodium hypochlorite 12-12.5% a good choice for this task.

Also increase your filtration/pump times with a cloudy pool.

Suntan lotion gets in the filter.  There are solutions made to help remove goo at clean out.

  2. Pool might also be cloudy due to pollen? Just let the filter take care of it, it's jsut going to take a while.

  3. look the best thing for that is to keep the kids outta the sun much as you can or have them stay in the water neck deep

  4. You may need to increase your chlorine level. Chlorine levels should be maintained at 10% of your CYA (cyanuric acid) levels. It is safe to swim in pools with chlorine over 5ppm if your CYA is high. Earlier in the season the water was probably cooler and the chlorine was more effective and algae doesnt like cooler water. Superchlorinate your pool to at least 10ppm and allow the filter to run 24hrs/day until the pool clears. Make sure the filter is clean. If there is not hint of green your problem is probably a dirty filter or insufficient chlorine. The waste the children leave behind (urine, sweat, oils from the sunblock, etc.) is consuming a large portion of the chlorine preventing it from attacking other organics in the pool such as algae.

  5. normal pool maintnence

the filter should clear it out tho

i would just have the kids cut back on going in the pool for a while or just stop for a few days

    things should be fine
