Clown Bikes ????

do you know where to find a cheap good condion clown bike????

I thought that they were all recalled and made into compressed little blocks of trash.

If you want to MAKE a clown bike there is a really cool way. I did this once, it lasted through 3 or 4 parades and finally broke. I'll try to explain...

1) Find an old 20" single speed bike with a coaster brake and a quill stem... not a threadless steerer. You can also get one of those cheap Schwinn reproduction Stingrays from Walmart.

2) Remove the saddle/seatpost, the stem/handlebar, and the fork.

3) Reinstall a fork from a bike that had 26" or 27" wheels so the wheel is sticking out where the handlebars used to be, basically installing it upside down. Turn the bike upside down so the wheels touch the ground.The crank will now be on top of the bike. Make sure that the frame doesn't touch the ground. If it does you need to find a better bike candidate.

4) Weld a tube about 18" long onto what is now the top of the bottom bracket. Install the saddle and seat post into this tube. You will probably have to add an extra reinforcement to avoid bending the tube when you sit on the saddle. Cut the tubes you need from a donor frame... make sure the seatpost fits into the tube before you weld.

5) Weld a 1" diameter tube, about 18" long, onto the fork steerer. Install the stem/handlebar into the tube. reinstall the 20" wheel. You can get the tubing from another donor frame. Be sure the bar/stem fits into it correctly.

6) Jump on a table while the bike is sitting on the ground and hoist yourself onto the bike. You are now sitting about 6 feet off the ground on an upside down bike!

WARNING! This is a very unstable bike, so be careful when riding. I suggest a helmet and elbow/knee pads.
