  1. Clown loachs are slow growing but very long lived.

Expect them to grow to maybe 3 inches in the first year  in perfect conditions. After that, maybe 1" per year, for the next ten years.

Yes they can grow to over a foot long, in captivity, but expect that to take at least 10 years,

BTW Clown loaches are thought to live for up to 50 years, and are not even sexually mature untill 10 years.

  2. Clowns are big fish and will get to around 12" in captivity, albeit slowly. They live around for 20 years and do need big and long tanks, at least 6ft, for a group.

If you want Loaches look into smaller species such as Yoyos (needs 40 gallons minimum) and Chain (needs 20 gallons minimum), they can be very active though and can bother slower swimming and shy fish such as Angelfish and dwarf Cichlids as well as Bettas and Gouramis. Both these Loaches need to be in groups.

  3. i have a 250 gallon tank with 12 clownloach and mine are 7 inches already a 40 gallon tank in a minimum for 2 clown loach
