I think it depends on the clown. I've thought both of those things about different clowns.

French clowns and mimes are definitely creepy.

I think clowns started out being funny and mischievous, but after the TV movie, "It," based on King's story, they are now viewed as somewhat creepy.

Depends...is the clown at a kids birthday party then funny. If a clown is at MY birthday party then creepy.

If a clown is at a carnival then funny.

If the clown is out side my window then creepy.

i hate clowns, they creep me out...once i had a dream about a demon clown and ever since i hate them i don't want to go near them.

Neither. They are entertaining, as they were originally intended, with bright colours, funny voices and humourous acts.

People that are scared of clowns have probably seen the movie 'IT' or read the book by Stephen King.
