Club Football: Weekends Round up – Rossell, Del Neri and Gregorio Manzano give their views
Barcelona, Juventus and Sevilla’s representatives gave their respective views to the press after their team’s performances in the first round of matches of the weekend. Barcelona and Sevilla played each other in a match that was filled with goals as the
Catalonians came out with a five goal win over the Andalusians.
On the other hand, Juventus travelled to the San Siro stadium where they defeated a strong A.C Milan side by two goals to one. Juventus’s manager Luigi Del Neri told the press after the game about his views on the match. The Italian manager said, "I saw
a team that fought for every ball. This is the spirit to go on throughout the season. The team knows how to make sacrifices and we showed a great attitude. We have to continue like this. We are winning an excellent place in the league.
The experienced campaigner added, "This Juventus has shown we have seven lives. We have faith and we want to work hard to continue like this. It won't be easy, but we showed the Juventus spirit. We can fight for objectives, but we must not set ourselves
limits." Juventus held on for a late win after Milan pulled a goal back through Ibrahimovic in the dying moments of the match after Del Piero and Quagliarella’s goals had given the Bianconeri the lead.
When asked about the threat from Milan during the match, Del Neri responded by saying, "Milan? They were compact against us and they have good players up front. But our players made sacrifices and we were able to stop them.”
Alternatively, Barcelona’s president Sandro Rossell was on hand to praise David Villa following his team’s emphatic five goal victory over Sevilla on Saturday in the Spanish Primera Division. Lionel Messi and Villa both scored two goals each as Dani Alves
added his only goal of the match too, to give Barcelona the win.
Rossell spoke after his team’s dominating performance as he said, “Pep Guardiola said that the goals would come and they did. David Villa has always played well, but his main goal is not to actually score goals, but rather help the team. We are very happy
that we have won tonight in front of a big crowd, now we must look to Copenhagen as a win there would send us further clear [in the Champions League].”
Conversely, Sevilla’s coach was much more humble after his team’s loss at the Nou Camp. Gregorio Manzano spoke to the press about the match as he said, "We were no match. They were a dominant team in all facets of the game," said Manzano. "In the world of
football, when we think we are all on the same level, Barcelona makes another type of game. It was a game of tremendous difficulty and there is no doubt what a champion team they are. With their great players, when they roll the dice right, it wins every time.”
Sevilla’s coach also paid homage to Dani Alves, a player who played for Barcelona on the night but started his career at Sevilla. He stated, "Alves is a player with a lot of depth on each side and he attacks from behind defensive systems. It is a tremendous
credit to Sevilla that we discovered him in our system and then Barcelona have signed him because he is a great player.” The young Spanish manager concluded by saying, "We are on the ninth [match] day. Let's see how this journey ends and at least I will not
say that this result is of concern. Instead I have to reflect this difference that these two great teams [Madrid and Barca] are creating a gap ahead of the rest.”
