Corinthians and Chelsea took off against each other at Yokohama's Nissan Stadium, in the finals of the Club World Cup.
Given the fact that not many English teams had gone on to win the competition in the past, the Blues were looking to try and take the trophy back with them.
However, Corinthians went on to fight all the way to the finals, and they weren’t going to let the London based club just go on and walk away with the title.
Prior to the game, Chelsea’s manager, Rafa Benitez went on to state: “We had meetings today – one with the midfielders and defenders and the other with the offensive players.I wanted to change a few things, analyse our game, the positives and the negatives.
Then we will analyse Corinthians, the weaknesses we feel we can exploit. I can understand some people from a distance saying this competition is not important but this is an important final. Just to be here you have to win the Champions League. It’s the same
for Corinthians."
There was intent to win from both the teams, which is why the match was looking to be a rather interesting one.
The match kicked off with both the teams creating some brilliant chances in the first half. However, neither side really looked to finish off any of the chances that they created.
Torres came close to scoring in the 37th minute, but his fluffed effort was easily gathered by the keeper.
Then in the second half, Hazard came close to giving the Blues the lead in the 54th minute. Despite his brilliant movement, his final effort was smothered by the keeper, as he kept the Blues at bay once again.
Surprisingly, Corinthians went on to take the lead in the 69th minute of the game. Guerrero went on to meet a cross as he headed the ball into the back of the net from a couple of yards out.
Chelsea could have levelled things in the 86th minute, as Torres was clean on goal. The ball luckily fell to the striker leaving with a great opportunity to score, however, the striker sent his effort straight at the keeper.
Torres did managed to put the ball into the back of the net in extra time, but that effort was ruled to be offside.
