Club football news: Mancini and Milner say all is well at City while Bayern look to keep hold of Lahm
James Milner and Mancini have become the latest members of the Manchester City squad to come out and clear the air regarding discontent in the blues camp before next week’s matchup against Manchester United. City have lost their
last two league games in the English Premier League and thus they are in a bad run of form. The two losses came against Arsenal F.C and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Milner made his move to City in the summer transfer window from Aston Villa; the English midfielder
has been in the spot light recently after his on-the-field argument with Yaya Toure.
Milner and Mancini spoke about the matter during their pre-match press conference in Poland, Milner said, “When we see nonsense written in the papers it pulls us closer together. When it seems like the whole world is against you
that is when you pull together. These things will make us stronger as a football club. You go through times when things aren't quite right and it's important to keep things right off the field. I've been at Newcastle and Leeds where the press seemed to be
outside the training ground whenever you drove in. We can't control what's off the field, we can only control results.”
The English midfielder who has been one of the most improved players in the England setup over the past two years further added, "On the field arguments between players says we're very hungry to win football matches. We'd be worried
if there wasn't that hunger because we're desperate to win trophies. In changing rooms up and down the country you'll see people disagreeing but it's forgotten as soon as you step off the pitch. We're a tight group."
Roberto Mancini, the Manchester City manager also complimented his players remarks by speaking at length about reports that the Italian had fallen out with the Toure brothers, both of whom are integral members of the Premier League
outfit. Mancini said, “It's not true, it's false. But if there's someone who wants to write these lies then I'm very happy for them. But no, it's not true." City next face Lech Poznan in the Europa League group stages and then they face West Bromwich Albion
in the English Premier League on the coming weekend.
The ex-Inter Milan manager spoke about his possible team selection for the Lech Poznan match as he said, "We will change some players for tonight; it's impossible to play the same players always." He also elaborated on Carlos Tevez’s
possible return to action as he added, "But tomorrow he (Tevez) will be in Manchester and I think he will be ready for West Brom on Sunday. If he is okay then he should be."
On the other hand, Bayern Munich have convinced their star full back Philipp Lahm to sign a new contract with the Bavarian giants, an agreement which will keep him at Munich till the year 2016. Lahm joined Bayern as a youngster
way back in 1995 and has stuck with the club since then. He is widely known as one of the best defenders at the game, the German footballer also captained his national team side for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, in absence of their first team captain, Michael Ballack.
Rummenigge, Bayern Munich’s chief executive commented on Lahm’s new contract with the club as he said, "We have agreed on a new contract until 2016 with Philipp Lahm and it will be signed in the coming days.” Bayern Munich will
be hoping that their midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger will also sign a new contract with the club amidst reports that the German is interested in playing in the English Premier League.
