Question:

Clutch going bad.?

I have a Yamaha dt50r moped (enduro style bike), I've noticed that even when I pull the clutch the bike keeps pulling, not very hard but still a little, when I elevate the rear tire it spins both in neutral and when I put it in first and pull the clutch, stopping the spinning is very easy in neutral but when in first gear it does require some amount of force.

This has been like this for a while but I never figured it was a problem until now, I think it has worsened, now I can't put the bike in neutral when the engine is running.

Any ideas whats wrong? How to fix? I tried adjusting the clutch cable but It didn't do much good.

The bike still has warranty, If this requires some work or materials would it be covered (your best guess)?

  1. " What are the possible technical causes of this? I'd rather not go to the dealer, I'd rather do this myself if possible, both for cost and experience.

    "

clutch cable adjustment, clutch basket worn(unlikely)

I'd go back to the adjustment, ur manual should show how to do this and give the correct free travel gap.

  2. I dont think the clutch is bad, but from what it sounds like you are saying, it the cable may need adjusting. It is usually around the lever, or where it goes into the motor. I am not familiar with mopeds, so I cant be much help. But that is usually what happens on atvs or dirt bikes, so it may be similar.

  3. The clutch is considered a Wear part like chains and Sprockets. Unless the clutch itself is defective You will have trouble getting them to warranty it. I have never heard of a clutch going out before the warranty was up except in cases of abuse. Be prepared for some tough questioning at the dealer.
