http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Worcestershire-c866 259/9 (40/40 ov) - Lancashire won the toss and who chose to field
Tuesday, June 05: In the Group A match of the Clydesdale Bank 40 tournament, Worcestershire while batting first has managed to amass a massive total of 259 runs in 40 overs against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806 at Old Trafford, Manchester.
After winning the toss, Lancashire invited the opposition to bat first as they wanted to take full advantage of the bowling conditions.
The decision worked like a charm at the beginning as they nabbed their first wicket with only four runs on the board as Worcestershire opener MM Ali was trapped in front of stumps after scoring only three runs.
With their first wicket down without much on the board, Worcestershire needed a calm innings from the batsmen in order to prevail and avoid an embarrassing defeat.
While Lancashire had a tremendous start to the game, they had no idea what was to come as their bowling attack was surprisingly neutralized by VS Solanki and PJ Hughes as the duo forged an astounding alliance to place their team in a comfortable position.
No matter what the bowlers did, they were just not good enough to wreck the partnership as the batsmen exhibited their superiority in front of a decent crowd which had gathered to witness a splendid match between the two teams.
Finally with a massive total of 212 runs on the scoreboard, Lancashire secured their second wicket with SD Parry destroying the stumps of Solanki after the batsman had staggered an innings of 121 runs off 107 deliveries.
This was a great breakthrough for the fielding side as they grabbed another quick wicket of GM Andrew on just five runs, at a time when the side was standing on a total of 219 runs.
While Hughes steadfast, he was losing partners on the other end as the side was losing wickets sooner than expected.
By the time Worcestershire has posted 244 runs on the board, they had lost five wickets and were heading for a complete meltdown. Later, Hughes also departed after bolstering an innings of 104 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SI-Mahmood-c2523 stayed second best with a tally of two Worcestershire scalps.
