http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Worcestershire-c866 in a Group A CB40 match, to the triumphant flip of the coin, saying it was an important toss to win.
Gidman, the 30-year-old right-handed middle-order batsman, who had not won a toss over the past one month, said that he was pretty unsure about winning the toss against Worcestershire yesterday. But, after being triumphant at the flip of the coin, he had
no hesitation in opting to bat first, despite having a little knowledge about how the pitch would behave.
"It was a very important toss to win. I was a bit worried about it, because I hadn't won one for the past month,” said the visiting skipper after the match. "Fortunately, I called it right and had no hesitation in batting first,” he added further.
Gidman admitted that he did not have a fair idea of how the pitch would behave, however, he was happy his decision to bat first paid off in the end, as the tourists scripted their third win of the season, with a mammoth 109-run margin.
"I was not quite sure how the pitch would play, but I thought it would be harder batting second,” said Gidman, who played a quick half-century knock (59 off 50 balls) at New Road to take the side to an imposing total of 238 for 6.
The Gloucestershire skipper was well complemented by younger brother http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Will-Gidman-c2793 (98-ball 76) in his attempt to set an imposing target for the hosts. The younger Gidman then delivered an astounding performance with the ball, conceding just 10 runs in his
six overs, claiming two wickets as well, as the home side was bundled out for just 129 in the final over of their chase.
"We took the pace off the ball, took some vital early wickets and then pressed home our advantage,” said Gidman after the match.
"This was a very important win for us. It keeps us alive in the group and gives us something to play for later in the season,” the right-hander concluded.
With three wins in five outings, the Gladiators find themselves third on the tournament standings.
