Samit and Scott Elstone posted 38 more runs to the scorecard for the fourth wicket stand. That became 136 for 4 when Samit mistimed Breese safely into the hands of Muchall. He earned the hosts 81-ball 75 looting 10 well timed boundaries. Samit Patel’s departure brought skipper Read to the crease who shared useful stands with Elstone and Mullaney to take the side to a competitive total of 257 for 7.
Meanwhile, Durham’s run chase went off to a steady start before losing three quick wickets that turned the tables around.
