Worcestershire flexed their muscles in front of an adoring home crowd of 7,917 by beating Surrey by a massive margin of 90 runs in a floodlit Clydesdale Bank 40 fixture. The match was played at Kennington Oval, London on Wednesday, September 1st.

Vikram Solanki compiled 129 runs from 89 balls hitting 13 fours and three sixes while Gareth Andrew faced just 60 balls to log his 104 plundering eight muscular boundaries and six lofty sixes. In reply, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rory-Hamilton-Brown-c2366’s whirlwind 41-ball 80 was not enough to pass away the 90-run defeat. Clinical batting performance of Worcestershire was well supported by Shaaiq Choudhry as he finished with 4 for 54 from 8 overs.
Daryl Mitchell, the skipper of Worcestershire opted to bat first after winning the toss. Mitchell’s decision of batting first was duly respected by his men who posted an intimidating target of 377 runs for Surrey. The explosive opening combination of Moeen Ali and Vikram Solanki once again worked well setting an imposing foundation of 61 runs from seven overs. Both the openers opened up quite confidently hitting boundaries and occasional sixes as well.
Jade Dernbach halted the blitz of the bludgeoning openers in the eighth over when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Moeen-Ali-c1990 was caught by Matthew Spriegel off Dernbach’s fine delivery. Ali scored 41 runs from just 28 balls. During his 31 minutes stay at the crease, Ali struck seven well timed boundaries and a six as well.
A 31-run stand was shared between opener Solanki and Jack Manuel for the second wicket partnership with the bulk coming from the aggressive opener. Manuel’s share in the 31-run stand was just four runs that came through eight balls. Jack Manuel departed on the first ball of the 11th over after being trapped leg before by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gareth-Batty-c1456. Alexei Kervezee then joined Vikram Solanki in his assault. Kervezee was as pugnacious as was Solanki. His 13-ball 24 contained four muscular ground shots through the ropes. Kervezee’s aggressiveness shot back at him as the player could stay for only 11 minutes at the crease. Kervezee tried to pull a fuller delivery from Dernbach for a boundary but got beaten and the ball chipped his stumps.
Kervezee’s dismissal brought Gareth Andrew to the crease and in partnership with Moeen Ali’s opening partner Vikram Solanki; the duo entertained the jam-packed London crowd with a flurry of boundaries and sixes. Both the partners shared a three digit stand taking the side to 300 up. Solanki cruised to his 68-ball ton hitting 11 fours and two sixes while Gareth Andrew chalked his half century off 41 balls including three boundaries and two sixes. The Surrey bowlers waited for the next 18 overs to script another success. The partnership was worth 185 when Dernbach broke it having the opener bowled with a fine delivery. Solanki earned his side 129 runs from just 89 balls.
After Solanki’s dismissal two quick wickets fell leaving the side 337 for 6 before Daryl Mitchell and Shaaiq Choudhary came to the crease to take the side to 376 for six at the end of the allotted 40 overs.
In reply, the whole team of Surrey was bundled out for 286 in the 37th over. Rory Hamilton-Brown blazed away with the bat but his pugnacious 80 runs from just 41 balls were not enough to deny Worcestershire’s 90-run win. Shaaiq Choudhry complimented his side’s clinical batting performance with a four-wicket haul. Jack Shantry and Moeen Ali shared two wickets each.
