I'm getting ready to move to Clonakilty (flying to Dublin, 9 January) to work for Sea Fisheries Protection Authority. I need a place to stay and need to know where the best places to exchange USD for Euro at the best rate. And anything else anyone thinks I should know. Any suggestions?

  1. I am from Clonakilty and to be honest there aren't many great hotels to stay in in this town! If it is a hotel you are looking for then the best is the Inchydoney Lodge and Spa about 3 miles outside the town. It's a 5 star but is also as you might expect very expensive. The best hotel in town would be the Quality Hotel on the outskirts. They also do houses and apartments to rent. There are plenty houses to buy in town with a lot of new developments in the area. If you are renting then i would suggest an apartment at Croppy Quay or a house at the Belfry or in Clogheen. These are the best locations. There are also apartments in the town centre but i'd say you won't get one to rent very easily. Any of the three banks in town would be good for exchaning money but i would suggest Permanent TSB or AIB. You will find both of them very easily. The best thing about this town is the night-life. There are two main night clubs in the town centre. The Venue at O'Donavans hotel and The Bubble Lounge at The Emmet. It is supposed to be an excellent town for visitors and is very popular but i just think it is very boring. Good luck with the job and i hope you like the town!

for some info about the town

    http://www.clonakilty.ie/index.php/local...

lists services including two banks (useful phone nos. when you want to enquire about converting those dollars) and two real estate businesses (one is listed as property services)

for houses to rent in Clonakilty, try

    for houses for sale, try

Choose "sort by Price", and it will start from the lowest price upwards. After a lot of building sites offered, houses appeared from page 4 onwards

Good luck, and come and have a great time!!

  3. change your money in Dublin airport, and just enjoy Cork

  4. Clonakilty is beautiful! Loads of estate agents in the area, most of them locally based, should be easy enough to find a place to stay. There are 3 or 4 bamks in the town  so it would probably be worth a look around them before changing your cash. Beautiful beaches, loads of awards, (national, Europeann and International).

Good Luck, you'll love it in Clonakilty

  5. My mother lives in clonakilty and there is a lovely hotel that I have stayed in there. O'Donnels Hotel, lovely food and a delicious filling irish breakfast!!
