Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops are the two most played games on the Xbox 360 console for 2011. Is anyone surprised? Anyone?!
There are a number of ways to gauge a game’s success. One of them is sales figures, another is review scores and yet another is how many people actually play the game and for how many hours.
The latest figures for which games everyone has been playing over Microsoft’s premium subscription online service, Xbox LIVE, have been revealed and the most played games are...Call of Duty, Call of Duty and Call of Duty.
Elaborating on that bombshell, it really is not a bombshell but it gives a nice dramatic effect, the most played game on LIVE was Black Ops, which was around the entire year.
Coming in second place was Modern Warfare 3, which is quite an achievement seeing how it managed to finish so high up after only being released in November. This meant it racked up enough hours played in just over a month’s time.
In third place, and this really has to be a testament to the game, is Modern Warfare 2, which is over two years old by now and still manages to keep itself in the top three.
Halo: Reach takes up the fourth spot, though the fact that the latest Halo game is outdone by Modern Warfare 2 should tell everyone something they need to know about the dying popularity of the franchise. Something that Microsoft will hope to address with
the next three games for the series which they have announced.
Next up is Battlefield 3, which had only a few weeks more time to played than Modern Warfare 3, seeing as how Electronic Arts’s shooter was released in October.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim also managed a high finish as it was the sixth most played game on Xbox with the trilogy to Marcus Fenix’s adventures coming in seventh.
A larger number of Xbox players played a fair amount of footy online too as FIFA 12 managed to rack up just enough hours to finish one better than its predecessor FIFA 11. Something that EA will be proud of seeing how the latest game barely had a couple
of months to outdo its older release.
Madden NFL 12 rounds up the top ten as the American Football game seemed to lose out in terms of popularity when compared to its ‘soccer’ cousin.
Just to wrap things up, it seems that every Call of Duty title managed to make the charts as Call of Duty 4 finished 14th in the charts and World at War managed to slip into the top 20 places as well.
What is it with the Xbox and Call of Duty games?
