His dismal show in the first four ODIs also caused his exclusion from the squad for the final match against the islanders. The Nottingham-born fast bowler was not even the favourite option to be selected in the final playing XI for the high-voltage Lord’s
Test. However, the team management showed faith in Broad who justified his place in the side by grabbing seven wickets in the game.
In the second innings, he also smashed a blistering half-century that eventually steered the Poms to a strong position in the contest.
Admiring Broad for making such a great comeback, Flower said that his fantastic return has proved that the 25-year-old paceman has a great temperament plus ability to thrive at critical situation.
"Stuart's role has never been that of an enforcer. It is the same as the other bowlers - to create pressure and take wickets. It was really nice the way he did that in this game and this is the standard I expect from Stuart. We expect him to do outstanding
work," said Flower.
Furthermore, the coach lauded his players for not letting the odds affect their game, adding that it is great to have such players who don’t lose their concentration even in the worst time.
"It is important that our players are very clear in understanding their own games. Sometimes in the heat of the battle when your form is fluctuating you can lose that clarity of thought,” shared the former Zimbabwean skipper.
Flower, however, urged his players to continue the excellent work, asking them not to rest on their laurels since they Indians have the potential to roar back into the series.
