Coach Bruce Arians admits Andrew Luck’s leadership skills payoff to Indianapolis Colts – NFL News
One of the qualities that distinguish Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck from other rookie quarterbacks of any season is his leadership skills. Although he is in first pro year, his leadership skills are unlikely to be matched even by a veteran,
as he showed during his performance versus the Detroit Lions on Sunday December 02.
It was closing minute of the game and he on his own decided to take a risk that could have been ignored even by a veteran, and his perfect long-haul throw that was converted into a touchdown finished the game just two points in favour of the Colts.
Luck says of the play:
"You always hesitate throwing the ball not in the end zone, for fear of the clock running out with a guy in bounds. Took the calculated risk that Donnie could get there in the end zone, and he did."
The gam analysts agree it was not just one throw but the quarterback made right moves at the right time that kept the Colts alive in the game and at the end paid them off.
It was closely fought game until the Colts pulled off the trigger with only a few seconds left and had it not been for the offence leader’s visionary thinking they could have ended as losers, staking their playoff opportunity, which now appears to be more
evident in front of them.
Given the American Football Conference (AFC) South division leaders the Houston Texans have made the playoffs first of all, for second time straight, the Colts are just behind them for the second round with or without wildcard chance.
The timely win over the Lions has cemented their chances, much to the surprise of the coach who could not think of so much success coming to his way so quickly.
It is pertinent to mention that Bruce’s career had hit a serious uncertain phase when the Pittsburgh Steelers let him exit unceremoniously earlier in the year but now he thanks for the move by the Steelers because he could not have found a better side than
the Colts.
Bruce is covering as an interim coach in place of ill coach Chuck Pagano, who has been diagnosed with Leukaemia and since becoming a head coach he has led the team to consecutive and surprise wins.
