Coach Corrie van Zyl to retire after World Cup 2011
Current South African cricket coach, Corrie van Zyl has decided that he will not coach the side after the 2011 edition of the World Cup. The 2011 World Cup will be played in the Indian sub-continent from February next year.
Speaking to a website, Sport24, Cricket South Africa chief executive, Gerald Majola confirmed this development and said that he had been told as much by van Zyl after his return from the west Indies. Majola said, "Van Zyl informed me shortly after the team's
return from the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 that he would not be applying again. It was only right that I confirmed with him as the incumbent in the position before the job was advertised."
Van Zyl was the assistant coach to Micky Arthur through his tenure before he was offered the job. This happened after Arthur decided to part ways with Cricket South Africa at the end of the series against England last year. Van Zyl was appointed only as an
interim coach to see the team through to the World Cup.
Majola also said that Van Zyl will go on to rejoin the High Performance Centre in Pretoria as a coach. He said, "Corrie's reasons are personal, but no doubt also include the fact that the position of coach is not a full-time one. He'll in all likelihood be
moving to Pretoria."
Van Zyl said that the reason he preferred the High Performance Centre coaching job over the role with the South African team is because he enjoyed it better and, “it's a job in which I believe I can make a long-term difference to South African cricket.”
South Africa have a hectic international schedule leading up to the World Cup with a series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 for a few Tests and ODIs before
the side heads to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 for the World Cup.
