Coach Darryl Sutter Proud of Los Angeles Kings Performance – NHL news
It was because of Darryl Sutter’s hard work that the Los Angeles Kings won their first Stanley Cup championship in over 40 years. They ended at number-five in the Western Conference this time around during the shortened season, three places above what they
ended in 2012, but failed to get past the Chicago Blackhawks.
The 2013 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Playoffs were certainly tough and Los Angeles is still proud that they put up a fight and made it to the Western Conference Finals.
Although it may seem to some experts that the Kings have not managed to keep the momentum going, Sutter thinks otherwise as he spoke with the media on Monday.
“I don't think anything's missing,” Sutter said. “We did win this year. You don't think we win? You don't think Anaheim won this year? We win. You go from 30 [teams] to 16 to eight to four to two to one and you can't win the Stanley Cup every year. I don't
like going on [about] this, but there are some awful spoiled people in the media and awful spoiled people in this organization that think that … [the Kings have] played more playoff games in the last year – year – than any other team in hockey.”
Beginning the season without some of their top defenders, Willie Mitchell and Matt Greene, Los Angeles managed to handle the workload by spreading it out. Jarret Stoll and Mike Richards were also ousted with concussions during the playoffs and a number of
other stars like Dustin Brown, Drew Doughty and Justin Williams played with injuries.
Just making the Western Conference finals was a major feat for Los Angeles as they became the fourth hockey club since 2000 to perform it. Due to their efforts, the Los Angeles Kings have managed to bring a hockey boom to the capital city of California,
which was known for other sports such as basketball and baseball.
Whatever happened, Sutter is ready to forget it and put it behind him. He is definitely now looking forward to the 2013-2014 NHL regular season and hopes to rebound.
