Coach Doc Rivers not bothered with Boston Celtics unimpressive run so far - NBA Update
Boston Celtics have been one of the dominant teams in the NBA for the past few years.
Historically too they are a powerhouse with 17 NBA World Championships under their belt- last one being in 2009-10. However the way they are playing at the moment in the shortened season, it does not look like they will improve on that record this year.
Currently their record stands at 4-5 and they are yet to win a game against a solid unit. Still Coach Doc Rivers is not too bothered and still thinks Celtics are an elite team and will bounce back quickly.
All the big guns have looked rusty so far but then again, it’s only the beginning and they are surely going to get better as the season progresses.
"Well, we'll have to find that out. I think we are," he said "But, obviously, we're 4-5 right now. Our record says we're not [an elite team]; we say we are. I'm just going to warn you, it's nine games. Don't jump off the bridge yet. I can feel you jumping
off.
He thinks it is a blessing in disguise that Boston have underperformed so far. If they had won all of their games, they might have got overconfident and lost at a much crucial stage of the season.
"What I'm saying is, it's early guys. Coaches always worry about their teams, that's my job -- concern [and] worry. That's what it should be. If we were 10-0, I'd be concerned that we're getting overconfident. We're 4-5 and really haven't beaten anyone yet.
So we have to do that, eventually, if we want to be an elite team."
Although the team has not performed up to the potential, there is still a lot of positivity about how the players are approaching the game. One of the few problems the C’s are having is in the rebounding department, however players are motivated to rectify
the issue and the fact they are spending extra time in the practice sessions proves their commitment.
Teams usually get demoralized when they are going through a rough patch, but Celtics are an experienced side which is mentally tough and have been through this situation before, so there is no need to push the panic button yet.
As a coach, Doc needs to ensure players’ confidence remains intact throughout the season because it’s still a long season and the real fun will begin with the playoffs. If the Celtics can keep their chin up and reach the post-season, they have the ability
to cause a lot of problems to a lot of teams.
