Coach Gary Kubiak backs Houston Texans not to get carried away by hype – NFL News
Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak has played down suggestions if his side can get carried away with the hype of glorious run this season, saying the team are group of mature guys and cannot fall to complacency so easily.
Gary has been responding to a sense of worry on part of some relevant quarters that the Texans might be swept away by the hype generated around their perfect record so far.
The coach said:
"I just think they're very mature and I've told you all that. It's a good group of guys. They're really hard on each other."
He added:
"They're feeding off each other. They're playing very hard. The best thing we've done as a team is we've protected the ball and taken it away. Those two things together win games in this league."
Although Gary accepted the Texans have done impressively well this season, he added that this does not rule out chances of further improvement in certain areas. For example, the coach is still not happy with the way the rushers have managed their game so
far, although he has seen improvement with the passage of every single game.
Kubiak is of the view:
"The thing that's bothering me the most is in the first half we score on two of four possessions. We miss third-and-1 and we miss third-and-2 running the ball."
There is no challenge to Kubiak’s view that there is a need for improvement. In fact, there is always a need for improvement and the coach has tactically done it right to keep the pressure on players. The demand from them to do more and better will keep
pushing them into hard work and this is an area where the Texans have not let anyone match them so far.
The team again faces a better side – the New York Jets – this Monday (Oct. 08) and although they are upbeat about their preparedness, the game will not be an easygoing for them.
A win is certainly theirs at the end provided they are able to play the game at a pace they played against the Denver Broncos. The coach is hopeful of the Texans doing so versus the Jets.
