Coach Gary Kubiak hails team-effort in Houston Texans 30-10 win vs Miami Dolphins – NFL Recap
Coach Gary Kubiak praised the team-effort from the first-time Super Bowl contenders Houston Texans, who inflicted a 30-10 defeat on the visitors Miami Dolphins on Sunday night to start the National Football League (NFL) 2012 season on a winning note.
With a little help from the inexperienced pro league debutant quarterback Ryan Tannehill, the Dolphins did not have a befitting answer to a wave of attacks from Texans’ offensive line.
Quarterback Matt Schaub who was playing his first season game after returning from a foot injury, which had made him sit out the latter half of the past season, threw a touchdown pass to fully fit wide receiver Andre Johnson, and running back Arian Foster
then matched the effort with two touchdowns to earn the coach’s appreciation.
Gary said:
"We were explosive as a team in that period of the second quarter."
Johnson completed 119 receiving yards while QB Schaub threw for 266 yards, to be pleased with his performance after return to action for the first time in the regular season.
He said:
"I'm excited for it to be done and over with so every ounce of focus and energy can be directed to this season."
With all seemed going in favour of the Texans, Dolphins’ rookie Ryan had a rather rough start to his pro career. Although he still remains confident, it might take him quite a few games to find some sort of consolation to lack of experience he has as a quarterback.
The rookie had only a year of experience in the college league and surprised most of the pundits to have made to the top straightaway.
It was a costly Dolphins’ decision to release veteran David Garrard after he had finished at the top of depth chart in the team's quarterback competition before being ousted for a couple weeks for a minor surgery.
Tannehill looked shaky in the preseason phase and the possibility of him being successful in the preseason was very little. The rookie nevertheless is hopeful of improvement in the coming games.
He said:
"I felt like we hurt ourselves more than they really just stopped us. That's a good defence. So being able to move the ball on a good defence like that gives us some confidence. Obviously, we have to fix a lot of things and eliminate those turnovers. But
I think it gives us a look at what we could be if we played to our full potential."
Stakes are higher for Dolphins’ first-year coach Joe Philbin and it is going to be a tough decision for him to retain the rookie as the leader after how he has performed in the opener, irrespective of the fact that he is confident of doing better in future.
