Coach Gary Kubiak-led Houston Texans all favourites vs Jacksonville Jaguars in AFC South game – NFL Preview
The Houston Texans are all favourites against the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars when both teams from the American Football Conference (AFC) South face each other this Sunday (Nov. 18).
With the impressive record of 8-1, the Texans are brimming with confidence and as coach Gary Kubiak pointed out, the Texans are getting more matured with every win they score on the way to another AFC South title, apparently.
Gary said:
"We've got to get ready for a division opponent real quick. It's just part of the maturing process if you want to be good enough to someday put yourself in the position to win a championship. We're growing up from that standpoint."
On other hand, Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey has been ruing the team's position, which with only single win as a matter of fact has collapsed at all positions.
According to Mike:
"I don't think any of us thought that we would be in this position. We didn't feel like we'd be in this position. We're not looking back. We're moving forward. We're going to try to continue to gain progress in what we're doing. It's disappointing because
none of us felt like we would be here by any means."
For Jaguars, the situation before heading into next game is exactly opposite to the Texans’. While the former has only one win in the season and have played nine games, the latter has lost only single out of their nine games. While the Jags have failed themselves
equally on the offensive and defensive positions, the Texans are thriving on strength and strong show put up by both departments.
The Texans are now so flexible and their strategy so much adaptable that they can use offence as a best defensive strategy. The mantra as earlier explained by the coach is that keeping possession of the ball to a maximum level gives no time or very little
space to opponents to unleash their attacks. Also, quick release of the ball after a snap put less pressure on the offence as far as ripping through oppositions’ defences is concerned.
So Gary’s strategy has worked remarkably well, so far. Their defence under coordinator Wade Phillips is even more powerful and forceful than ever before. The coach has done rather well to help the side gain on the league’s defence chart to stay just behind
the Pittsburgh Steelers on the top.
Jags coach Mularkey is struggling on his end to pull up his team together to record some respectable performance out of the entire season. With only seven more games to go in the regular season, the coach does not have much left to ponder upon. The team
appears to be on the course on which the Indianapolis Colts travelled a season earlier.
They can only hope for a miracle to beat the Texans this weekend. Otherwise, the Texans are likely to add up another win to their record.
