Coach Gary Kubiak says Houston Texans use QB Matt Schaub strategically in each game – NFL News
Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak has said that the Texans’ offence is built quite differently to some other teams in the National Football League (NFL) which requires them to make a need-based use of quarterback Matt Schaub.
Gary said their offensive strategy sometimes keeps use of the offence leader as limited as to 22 or 23 throws and sometimes they need him to throw up to 45 passes to win a game.
The coach said:
"The thing about our team offensively, we're built a little bit differently than some teams. There are times we may not ask Matt to throw it 22 or 23 times in the course of a game. Or we may need him to throw it 45 times for us to win. I don't know when
those days are going to be, but he's handled himself very well.”
He added:
"He's thrown for a percentage when somebody played him a certain way, and then he made big plays when somebody played him a different way last week. Matt's on his way, practicing very well."
Kubiak has also spoken high of toughness of Matt, and cited the injury in Denver Broncos’ game as an example of how the QB can sustain injury scares to play through end of the game.
Matt was viciously hit by Broncos’ Joe Mays which removed his helmet and cut earlobe but the player continued playing the game as fit as he was before the injury for which he received praise from players and officials.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Texans have not lost a single out of the last seven consecutive games which Matt has started for them and in spite of missing most part of the last season with a foot surgery the quarterback has returned to action
as good as ever before.
The last game was especially notable versus the Denver Broncos when he outplayed the best quarterback Peyton Manning in the team’s 31-25 win over the hosts.
Kubiak is upbeat about the quarterback’s impressive run this season and hopes he will play a greater role in the team’s chances of reaching the Super Bowl title game.
