Coach Graham Ford surprised with Lanka’s lack of fight – Cricket News Update
After losing against Australia at Melbourne (with an innings and 201 runs) - Sri Lanka’s third consecutive Test defeat, their Coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Xavier-Ford-c60657, shared his surprise at the lack of fight shown by the Lankan Lions.
“I was surprised at the lack of fight. I have often spoken about the fight that Sri Lankan cricketers have. What I've become accustomed to is a lot of fight. Admittedly a lot of that fight has been more in the one-day format than in the Test match format,
but we have shown some good fight in Tests. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 got some really good momentum going and we didn't get the start that we wanted,” stated Ford.
Last time Sri Lanka witnessed such a massive defeat was against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 (by an innings and 229 runs) back when Ford was a Proteas coach. Finding himself on the wrong side this time, the 52-year-old shared his disappointment by tagging the Melbourne
defeat as the worst he has been a part of.
"Right now it feels like the worst Test match I've been involved in. I don't think I've been involved in a defeat inside of three days,” added the Sri Lankan coach.
Winning the Toss, Sri Lanka opted to bat first at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The batsmen were rattled by quality bowling from the Aussie side, which booked the visiting team at a low total of 156 before following it up with a lead of 304.
Put to bat for their second innings, the Lankan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779 injured his index finger in the process and could not resume his innings on 27, while
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/UWMBCA-Welegedara-c2735 also remained absent hurt, which prevented Sri Lanka from any possible recovery on the third day.
Sangakkara is also doubtful for the final Test in Sydney next week, which would give http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 will look to redeem themselves in the final Test by putting
up a better show.
