Coach Hendrawan wants national back-up players to perform consistently – Badminton news
Hendrawan, the national coach for Men’s Singles back-up squad wants his shuttlers to perform well on a consistent basis for achieving greater heights at international level.
The coach has been training back-up players for the last many years and is completely satisfied with their performance in domestic and international tournaments. However, he wants them work hard and perform well on a consistent basis, as it is the key to
become world-class acts.
Among back-up shuttlers, Misbun Ramdan Misbun, Mohd Arif Abdul Latif and Goh Soon Huat are prominent names who have showed a lot of improvement during the last six months. The coach said, “They have improved, that is without a doubt. Ramdan reaching the
last 16 of the Vietnam Open is testimonial to that. However, they have to be consistent if they want to develop further and become better players.”
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) changed the coaching structure for elite and back-up squads, as now all shuttlers will train together at the same time. During the last many years, elite shuttlers and back-up players had been training separately
under the supervision of different coaches. After the gradual decline of badminton in Malaysia, BAM was forced to take this action for making improvements in the quality of players.
However, under this new training structure, Hendrawan will not be independent to take decisions and design training programs for his shuttlers. Now, his role is to assist Rashid Sidek and Tey Seu Bock in the training program for the Men’s Singles category.
Hendrawan has some concerns regarding back-up players as he has been working well for the last many years and has produced quality players. He has been designing a training programme for shuttlers, but now his role will be limited.
He said, “Nevertheless, under the previous set–up, every coach have their own programmes for their players and I will discuss it further with Rashid (Sidek) and (Tey) Seu Bock in order to work something out.”
The new training system will be beneficial for the back-up squad as they will play with the elite squad on a regular basis and will learn the highest skills of the game quickly. Their hard work with top shuttlers will help them in becoming consistent performances
at the world stage.
