Coach John Harbaugh admits injuries growing concern for Baltimore Ravens – NFL News
Coach John Harbaugh admits that Baltimore Ravens’ past three consecutive losses do not bode well with their progression in the playoffs and that they still have got a lot of work to do as far as their performance at certain positions is concerned.
The Ravens lost last three games straight to plunge on the points table from 9-2 to 9-5 at present, and although they have earned a playoff spot, their performance and the number of injuries they are suffering is not a good sign for their immediate prospects.
Harbaugh said:
"We've got work to do. We're going to fight like crazy to become the team we're capable of becoming. We're not that team yet. It's a long season, but all of our goals and all of our dreams are squarely in front of us."
He added:
"We've owned the last three losses. We also own the nine wins. We are what we are, we are what our record says we are and we're in contention. We're proud of that. But we know we have to get better and we have to get healthy."
It is for the record fifth time that the Ravens will play in the second round. Yet they could not manage to reach the Super Bowl title game even once in all those occasions. This is where the coach’s worries lie now.
Although performance remains to be a prominent issue the team has been facing lately, the number of injuries to key players, particularly on the defensive line, has also taken a heavy toll on their overall output. From linebacker Terrell Suggs and Ray Lewis
to Ray Rice, all have spent a substantial amount of time on the sideline because of their respective injury scares.
It is pertinent to note here that the Ravens are known for their strong defensive line, traditionally. This year however they shifted some focus on the offence also and brought in Jim Caldwell off the Indianapolis Colts waivers to coach quarterback Joe Flacco.
Jim has recently taken over as an offensive coordinator following to sacking of Cam Cameron.
Flacco has improved significantly under Caldwell’s no-huddle offensive scheme but his performance alone is not enough to compensate for the defensive strength's loss. This is where the Ravens have to look for improvement, and they can only wish their injured
star players are back healthy on the line to their best defence.
