Coach John Harbaugh for perfect finish as Baltimore Ravens aim for title game – NFL News
The Baltimore Ravens aim to defy odds this year and make it to the Super Bowl title game after having failed to do so for the last four consecutive seasons when they were able to reach playoffs and the conference championship games.
Coach John Harbaugh throughout the offseason and then at training camp has emphasized on perfect finish and with some of the changes the team has introduced this year it appears the Ravens have a greater possibility of playing the title game this year than
they had over the past four years.
As pinpointed by the coach, the team for the first time has shifted its focus entirely from defence to strike an equal balance on the offensive line.
The offence leader quarterback Joe Flacco has already shown to be a completely transformed player, thanks to the team’s timely hiring of former Indianapolis Colts’ head coach Jim Cadwell to train and groom Joe and other quarterbacks.
Also, the team has moved beyond Lee Evans and kicker Billy Cundiff – the two black spots of the team’s performance in the American Football Conference (AFC) championship game against the New England Patriots last season, which they could have won without
fumbles and a missed field goal opportunity by them in the closing minutes of the game.
Now almost all players have shown themselves to be ambitious and thrilled about new season’s prospects, which was also reflective in their performance in the preseason campaign.
Coach Harbaugh is right to emphasize on the strong finish. The team had been doing remarkably well in regular season, finishing on top of AFC North division during most of the time. Their performance in playoffs is also reasonably good but beyond that they
are a complete failure.
It is a remarkable feat that the team progresses beyond first leg of the season but their collapse in the second leg and from there on is baffling.
A majority of commentators agree that the Ravens have the best opportunity to finish with the title win this season. The main point they base their argument on is that the team for the first time is coming out on the field with an aggressive and attacking
outlook. In the past they mostly relied on the strength of suffocating oppositions’ attack and scoring on opportunities such as turnovers. If they were defeated on the defensive line there was hardly any chance for their survival and resilience. This was exactly
what happened in the AFC game against the Patriots.
