Coach John Harbaugh wants Baltimore Ravens to improve in certain areas – NFL News
Coach John Harbaugh wants the Baltimore Ravens to improve in certain areas as the team in spite of staying winners in a majority of games this season have failed to make an impression on the field.
A majority of victories are close-margin wins for the Ravens, and they are yet to generate pace and momentum. One of the reasons behind the comparatively less competitiveness is that the team lacks defence strength this year, which has been the hallmark
of their strategy in the past many seasons.
This season, while they have boosted their offence, the lacking ability of defence has rather restricted their movement free and fast. Although the coach says he realise the point of imbalance defence line, there are a number of ways to do a better job.
He said:
"A lot of things have to get better or we're not going to be 6-2 in the second half. We need to be able to run the ball. Absolutely. That's kind of our identity. We want to be a physical football team. The truth is, it's going to take different things in
different games to win."
The official is right in pointing out the lacking possession of ball and at the same time retaining of the ball for longer than expected time. This is a strategy that the Houston Texans are using effectively.
What they have done is that they are using high-paced offence as their best defensive strategy. This sounds a bit confusing, but given the Texans are consistent, their oppositions are forced to be defensive, and if they lack movement of the ball they are
forced to lose possession.
Harbaugh might need to speak to his assistant coaches as well if really plans to shift the strategy, irrespective of the question whether the change will be effective with the season halfway through.
In case the team fails to adapt to the new approach, they might lose rhythm and their performance might get affected to an extent. Now they at least have measurable performance numbers and should not necessarily put through a new experiment at this stage.
