Coach Marvin Lewis backs Cincinnati Bengals target wins for playoff berth – NFL News
The Cincinnati Bengals are desperate for a win this week to cement their chance for second wild card in the American Football Conference (AFC) to secure a playoff berth as otherwise they stand losing the opportunity to their AFC North division rivals the
Pittsburgh Steelers.
Both teams are 7-6 on in the division and with three more games to play by each of them, the opportunity remains wide open in front of them. The Bengals are playing the Philadelphia Eagles this Thursday (Dec. 13).
Quarterback Andy Dalton said:
"This decides if we go to the playoffs or not. We still have to take it one at a time. We've got to get a win this Thursday, and then we'll focus on the last two."
Cornerback Leon Hall added:
"We want to finish these last three games 3-0 and see what happens after that. You get to losing games obviously this late in the season, you kind of take destiny out of your own hands. You don't want to be part of that."
Coach Marvin Lewis has added his voice with the players that they will target a win versus the Eagles as there is no other way to be through to the second round, which will be straight second time in last two years, a rare achievement for the Bengals, if
happens.
They had an easy chance last week but they lost their game. The Steelers and Baltimore Ravens lost their games too and courtesy of that total failure in the division the Bengals still hold a chance for the playoffs. The Ravens are the top team from their
division and can confirm their playoff berth with a win. They are playing the Denver Broncos, which is a rather tough opposition to beat to so this gives the Bengals another opening and they must capitalise on it.
Coach Lewis has backed the offensive line, particularly QB Dalton, to give their best on the day and looking at his profile the player appears to be well capable to take home the Bengals safely. The Eagles have the home-field advantage and a tough opposition
to walk over.
