Coach Marvin Lewis backs Hue Jackson’s second stint as assistant coach for Cincinnati Bengals – NFL News
After being snubbed by the Oakland Raiders over his failure in taking the team to the American Football Conference (AFC) playoffs during the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season, the coach, Hue Jackson, has joined the Cincinnati Bengals as an assistant
staff for secondary and special teams.
This is Jackson’s second coming to the Cincinnati Bengals as he has served the side as an assistant staff from the year 2004 to 2006.
Now he has availed another opportunity to assist the team’s coaches, Darrin Simmons and Mark Carrier at the two positions.
Jackson’s joining is backed by Bengals’ head coach, Marvin Lewis. He said the new coach is one of a few successful staff on the league and has proved his worth during his previous coaching stint with the team.
Lewis said:
"I relied on Hue greatly when he was with us, and his success overall in the NFL, including being selected for a head coaching position, is well documented."
He added:
"He has expertise in all aspects of the game, and we are fortunate to have obtained his services."
The assistant coach had also been helpful in brokering a deal for Cincinnati Bengals’ former quarterback, Carson Palmer, with Raiders during the past season.
Palmer, apparently being not happy with Bengals, was on the verge of announcing retirement from the league or sitting outside while waiting for a suitor from another team.
As a result of the deal, he joined the Raiders and played rest of the season there. He was not successful in taking Raiders to playoffs, while his previous team, Bengals, made it to the second round through a wild card.
The player managed to throw for 2,753 yards for Raiders, which included 13 touchdowns. At the same time, he was picked off for about 16 times.
Raiders finished the past season with the record of 8-8 (eight wins and eight losses) and the coach eventually became the scapegoat.
Since his ousting from the Oakland Raiders, Hue Jackson, has been named as a potential candidate for vacant coaching slots at a number of teams.
He was also tipped to be in line for interviewing with a couple of them such as the Indianapolis Colts, and it has emerged that he has successfully been through the selection process of his former team, Bengals.
Jackson has been performing the coaching role at various positions since 2001 when he joined the NFL as an assistant staff.
He is a professional American football player from the past, and has represented the University of the Pacific in the college football league before beginning his coaching career from the same league in 1987.
