Coach Mike Mularkey backs Jacksonville Jaguars’ reliance on positives of preseason to succeed – NFL News
Jacksonville Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey is confident of the team’s chances of staging a turnaround this season, hoping the players will capitalise on some of the positives they gained during the preseason.
Mike sounded to be optimistic about the team’s performance in the preseason irrespective of the humiliating loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
The coach said:
"I think our guys want to see where we're at. We did some good things in the preseason. We just want to see if we can do that for four quarters. I think this will be a good test up there. I think it's going to be good for us to see where we're at."
Mike has not spoken of any particular target in front of him to achieve during his first appearance as coach but any improvement from the previous season’s 5-11 finish will nevertheless satisfy the coach, and also new owner Shahid Khan.
He at least wants the team to put up a strong show on the field no matter what the results are, and particularly has higher hopes from the offence led by the second-year quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who thanks to persistence of the coach has retained his
job and position as the offence leader in the team.
According to the official:
"I have to kind of get acclimated to the offence. I have to show them the work to get my job back. That's all it is. No one has ever given me anything in my whole life. The competition is going to be great."
The Jaguars did remarkably well by beating the reigning Super Bowl champions the New York Giants to start the preseason campaign but then went miserably down in front of the Ravens. As the coach said, the team has overall many positives out of the phase
and reliance on those strengths can certainly pull off consistent victories for them.
Mularkey-led Jaguars face the Minnesota Vikings in the season opener this Sunday. The performance in the game should determine their future course and potential to progress for rest of the season.
