Coach Mike Mularkey hopes Chad Henne leads Jacksonville Jaguars’ to more wins – NFL News
Jacksonville Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey is full of praise for new offence leader quarterback Chad Henne who despite a few sacks and interceptions led the side to second win of the season against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday Nov 25, but a big question
mark looms over the Jags’ ability to ride on the win momentum and consolidate their lead in the American Football Conference (AFC) South division beyond two victories.
The Jags (2-9) are at bottom of AFC South. They had first win of the season versus the Indianapolis Colts and then were through to consecutive losses until they pulled off another surprise victory over the Titans.
It was a significant victory for the team given they had almost thrown away the chance. It was their opponents’ inability to capitalise on easy opportunities that their win remained intact until the end.
Some commentators agree that it was more to uncharacteristic Titans’ poor performance that helped the Jags eased past them, rather than a better game from them (Jaguars).
The credit nevertheless went to the new quarterback, who according to the coach timely helped their chances with some accurate throws.
Mike said:
"He's made some really good plays for us. He's made some good throws and some good reads for us. Players have made plays for him very well. He's made some throws. He's done a great job of some of the reads we've asked him to do. He, too, has things he can
get better at in both games that he's played so far, but he's being very smart with the ball.”
He added:
"When it's not there, a sack is better than a sack-fumble or throw it away and get a pick. He's eliminating the worst thing that can happen on plays."
The Jags won five games last year, and there is a question if they will be able to match that level this season. They have to win three out of five remaining games of the season to achieve it.
Mularkey has backed Chad Henne to come to their rescue at place of injured QB Blaine Gabbert, but still there are some reservations whether Henne should be named as franchise quarterback by the team.
