Coach Mike Munchak backs Tennessee Titans revenge New England Patriots 2009 win – NFL News
The impact of the 0-59 humiliating loss at the hands of the New England Patriots in 2009 does not seem fading away from memory of the Tennessee Titans but the team while still feeling the bitter taste of the defeat has vowed to never let that happen again.
Some of the players who were a part of the side on that bad day are upbeat about the transformation of the team that they have gone through since then, sounding the opponents do not dare take them as lightly as they had done about three years ago.
Running back Chris Johnson who was the only bright spot of the game for the Titans insisted it had nothing to do with that game, but they looked very much focused to open the season on a positive note.
He said:
"It's got nothing to do with the 59-0 game to me. Everything is focused on the regular season, so pretty much getting my whole mindset for the regular season right now."
It will be for the first time that the Titans face the Patriots under the reign of present coach Mike Munchak and it can be claimed that the Titans now have a potential to perform wondrously well under his coaching regime. He has taken forward the team from
6-10 a season earlier to 9-7 in 2011, and has higher expectations out of the forthcoming season.
Although Munchak was not a part of the side in 2009, he can feel the pressure still on some players to revenge the loss in a befitting manner. For example, tight end Jared Cook, who was a rookie then, still had sore taste left in his mouth of the loss. He
said:
"That was a feeling of shame at the end of that game. It was horrible. We definitely don't want to feel that way again. We definitely have to play better than three years ago. It's a different team. We have a different mentality.”
He added:
"We're going out and trying to re-stake our claim and make some things happen this year."
If the coach helps the side turn tables on the Patriots he should come out as a saviour, rather as a hero for the Titans, given, as mentioned by Cook, the team still think they have too much at stake in the game.
