Coach Mike Munchak backs Tennessee Titans to focus Houston Texans game – NFL News
While trying to be over with embarrassing loss versus the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday (Nov. 25), the Tennessee Titans are seeking to consolidate overall squad strength as they prepare to host the Houston Texans this Sunday (Dec. 02).
The loss has already cost offensive coordinator Chris Palmer his job and a shroud uncertainty prevails at the headquarters, although coach Mike Munchak has played down the pressure saying they should focus the game ahead and find ways to beat their strongest
American Football Conference (AFC) South division rivals.
Mike said:
"Other teams are struggling a lot like we are. No doubt we made it very hard on ourselves to be real excited at this point. We have to find a way to beat a great football team this weekend at home.”
The coach added:
“So we got our hands full. We'll worry about this week first because like you always say because that's all you can control, and hopefully a big win in this game will change our options with the last four."
It was a remarkable turnaround staged by the Titans to win a pair of consecutive games since the officials were put on an informal warning by owner Bud Adams, but their loss to the Jags was a worst surprise for the team, and particularly for the coach.
Munchak lamented the undisciplined performance of the team soon after the game and then went on to sack Palmer.
Now although the team has slipped well behind the Indianapolis Colts – another contender for the playoffs – a couple of wins can certainly bring them back into contention for the second round.
As the team prepares to host the toughest opponent, the coach has backed the side to regroup and consolidate their strength to successfully meet the challenge. Beating the Texans is not an easy task at all, given they have lost only a single game in the
season and have toppled some of the strongest rivals such as Peyton Manning-led Denver Broncos.
The Titans nevertheless have potential to seriously challenge and even beat the Texans provided they avoid a performance like the one they gave against the Jags. Unfortunately, they failed to capitalise on more than half a dozen clear turnover chances.
